Since we are living in a time were people are watching their money. Cooking and eating at home can save money and improve the quality of the food that you are eating. It is also important to make sure the foods that you are eating are have not passed the expiration date. Here is why I bring this up.
I came home to make lunch and work in my home office for the afternoon. I live with my 97 year old Grammy I went to the basement freezer to see what was there. When I started looking at the packages I noticed expiration dates from 2004. I was a little grossed out. I started to look at all the packages and most had to go. It brought up a good point about reading labels. It is important to look at the dates on fresh, canned and frozen foods and throw them out once the date has passed. For children and elderly, like my grandmother, people who are immune compromised this could make them sick. My suggestion is to clean out your pantry and the freezer every 6 months preferably every 3 months. For your refrigerator go through it monthly, preferably weekly and get rid of anything that has been there for a week or past the expiration date. This is a great habit to get into for food safety and family safety reasons.
