I was finally discharged today from St. Joes after a long 27 day stint. The nurses were thorough in their discharge today and I was even able to get in a second round of Zometa, the bone density treatment.
I have not had this since I was being treated by Dr. Roberts back in February. The Zometa was a 30-minute IV drip that was immediately followed by some sort of anti nausea medicine. This is the first time in a long time that I actually started feeling affected by the drugs. I was overcome with exhaustion as the drip entered my veins. My eyes were heavy as the nurses came in one by one to take care of last minute items and check out. I barely remember the car ride home; I was in such a fog.
HALT! As soon as I got home, I walked into a place that seemed like it was mine, but didn’t feel the same. It was an uncomfortable familiarness. I couldn’t help but immediately doing a walk through of the house. And mentally checklisting items that needed to be done over the next few days. This was followed by a long jaunt in the kitchen grazing the wonderful produce and snacks that were so abundant unlike my “kitchen” at St. Joes.
The next few hours of my homecoming were spent organizing and cleaning. Wes’s mother, the caregiver of the week was concerned (as she should be) of me overextending myself. I just couldn’t help, but wanting to find some sort of order after being “gone” for almost a month. I had set an appointment for my cat, Sissy to go to the vet at 4:30 p.m. to get her ears checked out for mites (she has had them for a couple of weeks) so I had limited time to clean and rest before the next task. By the time that Wes and I had finished taking Sissy to the Vet and returned home, one would think that at this point I would be drained from no sleep for weeks and just recovering from surgery. Nope, not me. I had this nervous energy that I just can’t seem to explain. I finished the evening by running errands, eating, movies, and more cleaning.
Tomorrow, I have a busy day starting with a doctor appointment to get my blood levels checked followed by radiation, trip to see the lawyer and my aunt and cousin are in town so it will be nice to catch up and spend time with them. I am hoping that by the second day of homecoming that my nerves will be a little more at ease as I try to adjust to my new life and routine.
