It has always bother me that throughout history pornography has always been the most profitable business undertaken and that trend has got worse. But lately I am also wondering if we have gone too far. Is this having an effect on our spirit? Are we experiencing a decline in spirituality.
In the United States alone there are more pornography businesses than Mc Donald restaurants. Here is another statistic, pornography is a multi-million dollar industry which surpasses the highest aggregated profits of professional sports!
Many young girls are forced into the business in countries where the only way to get money and stay out of poverty is the route into pornography. But our young American girls seem to be doing it for other reasons. Do these young girls or young woman actually believe that their success and the fulfillment of their purpose in this lifetime is that limited to the point of reducing themselves to satisfying the most basic instinct of those who indulge in the images?
Has pornography played an influencial role in many failed relationships? You bet! I have friends who tell me that the cause of the break up with significant others was because of too much time spent on the internet viewing pornography by one of the two. But what about society's response to the present child pronography epidemic? Are we ignoring it? What can be done? Are we desensatized to the horrors of these children's suffering? Of course the answers are difficult, but it is the spiritual side of our human nature that continues to be assaulted by an industry which seems to care only about profit.
