Kelly Wallace from CBS News is looking for moms to comment on a segment about the safety of bottled water. If you're interested, here's an email from her with her contact info:
We're doing a story for tonight's CBS Evening News on bottled water and are trying to look for a mom who no longer buys bottled water b/c she doesn't think it's safe. I'm a mom myself and actually stopped buying bottled water b/c I was concerned about the question of whether the plastic, once it gets very hot, could leak dangerous toxins into the water.
Today the GAO has issued a report calling on the FDA to set a standard for the amount of phthalates in the plastic bottles -- phthalate is the organic compound used to manufacture some plastics. According to the FDA, exposure to phthalates about max levels could lead to "reproductive difficulties, liver problems and increased risk of cancer." The GAO is also making the case that the EPA does more regulation of tap water than the FDA does of the bottled water industry.
If any moms are interested in talking to CBS News, we'd be thrilled to talk to you. You can email me at [email protected] or my producer, Mary Hood, at hoodm@cbsnews.
