I had a Caesarian with my first child, so we were all prepared for a Caesarian with the second. The day before, the doctor said "The head's down; she's ready." He and I were positive about an early morning surgery (including a tubal and a hernia repair), so things were supposedly going to go very smoothly.
My first clue was that the spinal was not quite working. "Move your toes," said the anaestesiologist. I did with ease, and got the "Hmmmm..." I'm still not sure if I got the dosage I necessary for the surgery, because believe me, I felt it. At least he eased my nausea in a flash and gave me a "margarita" after the surgery.
My doctor cut in to me and I heard him say "She's gone breech..." Oh, NO, was my thought. He had told me breech Caesarians do NOT go smoothly. Then he said, "and she's AWAKE." From there, I felt pulling, tugging, snapping, popping. There were two doctors manipulating me, pushing my insides, and moving organs out of the way to get to her. She was playing keep-away. Finally, one doctor pushed on my lungs (and, no, I couldn't breathe) while the other pulled from the inside. She was finally out...right before I was about to say "NEVERMIND; let's do it LATER!" Could you imagine?
My screaming precious baby was born and I haven't looked back...except to laugh. God gives you the ability to laugh at trauma afterward, especially when there is such a reward.
