As a lupus patient, my concerns and issues usually center around my joints and kidneys. I hadn't paid as much attention to my eyes. But, at my eye appointment, yesterday, my doctor connected a few dots between some emerging issues, lupus and my treatment for the lupus. She was the first of any eye doctors I've ever seen to have done this.
We discovered a few sun spots on my left eye, which makes sense, since that's the side most frequently exposed to sun while driving. We also discovered some miniscule white spots on my retina (I should have asked how to spell the condition) that we have to monitor.
Fortunately, blindness is rare and eye disease uncommon among lupus patients, but can be related to lupus inflammation or corticosteroids used in treatment. Among warning signs of problems, I have light sensitivity and headaches.
