Eunice Kennedy Shriver, a member of one of the most prominent families in U.S. politics, died Tuesday morning, the New York Times is reporting. She was 88.
Shriver was the sister of Senators Edward Kennedy and Robert Kennedy and President John F. Kennedy. She is also the mother-in-law of California governor Arnold Schwarzenegger.
Shriver is known for founding the Special Olympics decades ago.
A friend of the family said Shriver, who suffered a series of strokes, had been in declining health for months, the New York Times reported.
