A group of women set a new world record last weekend for the most women skydiving in a formation - and that's not all. They helped raise almost $1 million for breast cancer research in the process.
Called Jump for the Cause, and held three times since 1999, the event featured 181 women from 26 countries. They jumped out of nine planes at 17,000 feet. Wow! Can't you just feel the power of that experience?
The event was founded by Mallory Lewis, the daughter of Shari Lewis, the puppeteer of Lamb Chop. The participants did 20 practice runs, and broke the world record on their sixth try. They had hoped to raise about $700,000 for the City of Hope cancer-care center in California, but exceeded expectations and raised more than $900,000.
Sadly, this was the last Jump for the Cause event - organizers said it just took too much time and money for this volunteer effort.
