Similar to RLyons' post, I have index finger pain, but it is bilateral. The pain may be joint pain, but it is hard to tell, because it extends between the joints, as well. I have a 3 year old and a 1 year old, and I noticed the pain a few months back. I do not have pain in any other fingers. I had DeQuervain's Tenosynovitis post pregnancy #1, and had surgery to release the sheaths in both wrists. This was tremendously successful. Two and a half years later, though, when my 3 year old wants to hold hands, she tends to grab my index finger, which causes me immediate pain (probably an "8" or "9" on a scale of 1 to 10). Regarding how it feels, my left index finger feels a bit stiff, but I can use it. My right index finger is in slightly less pain and not really stiff at all. Using these two fingers for fine motor reasons, like tying to turn small knobs, pull things apart, or open the battery compartment on a toy (especially when I have to apply pressure with just the fingers) causes intese pain. When my fingers get twisted, squeezed, or hit by accident (or on purpose!) it is very painful, even if the contact is pretty low impact. I was originally thinking it was either a stress fracture or arthritis. I am 35 and am told I am a bit young for arthritis, though. I use a computer all day, but that doesn't seem to hurt at all. I also got an iPhone for Mother's Day, 2009, which I thought could be the culprit, but, again, it's use doesn't cause me pain, either. Can anyone give me any ideas? Thanks so much. CM
