I was diagnosed with Hashimoto's disease (an auto-immune disease of the thyroid) 16 months ago.
I have been taking medication every day. I also exercised 4-6 x's a wk, ate well + lived a happy life but I was still feeling fatigued + sluggish, had water retention, etc. And even with the help of a personal trainer/nutritionalist I could not get my weight or BMI to where I safely wanted them to be.
About a month ago, I consulted a naturopath who suggested I eliminate gluten from my diet and I decided to take him up on his advice. Lo and behold! I am feeling great, am dropping the excess weight and do not have the water retention problem.
I am sharing this information in the hopes that other women with my condition will try going gluten free. Research shows that after following a gluten free diet for 3-6 months Hashimoto's Disease can be eliminated!
There is also evidence that gluten intolerance is an underlying condition of many auto-immune diseases.
