Another simple letter from Kora, in another simple time. It was dated July 24, 1927 at 6:30 p.m. out of Russell, Kansas. A two cent stamp adorned the envelope, the letter was still folded as neatly as the day it was penned. At 105 years of age now, Kora can only reminisce about such special times. She still loves and always thinks of her husband, Lloyd, even though he passed away over 30 years ago. She and Lloyd exchanged letters regularly while they were briefly separated a few months after they got married in March of 1927. Lloyd was doing a pharmaceutical internship in Ponca City, Oklahoma, and Kora sure did miss him.
“Dearest Lloyd:
I surely enjoyed your letter today – like fun! I really and truly thought I’d get an S.D. today, but guess I don’t think as you do. Felt pretty bad about it too!
Went to Dorrance this p.m. The folks, Sadie and I. Got a hand painted creamer and sugar set, salt and pepper shakers, butter dish and relish dish from Aunt Ella. Didn’t know we were going to Dorrance until the last minute. Ate dinner at Hotel Russell and on way home Sadie said, “Be a sport Cora and take us to Dorrance.” So I did. Got back at 5:20. Made it down and back in 25 minutes each.
Had Hardy look over the car yesterday. Don’t know if they did anything or not. Got 10 gal of gas today. First I’ve gotten since you were here and got it.
Wanda J is lots better today. Junior had a spasm also last nite about 3 0’clock but is as well as over now. Said it was something he ate.
Had a keen dinner at Beaulah’s last nite. Afterwards Dave and Mary Hazel, Jim, Peanuts, and Marie came up and we went riding. The kids want to go out swimming tonite in the Saline. Don’t know yet.
Did you work hard today? Are you missing me lots Honey dear I sure do miss you and I missed my letter today. Did you get mine? Well, be good as usual and love me lots. I’ll be with you soon. Am taking Beaulah and kids and my mother to Great Bend tomorrow. All my love and kisses, too.
