My mom is 67 yrs old and under went a radical nephrectomy in January. She was diagnosed in December 2009 with Renal Cell Carcinoma. She had an embolization performed just prior to the nephrectomy. Yesterday she under went a routine colonoscopy and was told by the Dr. that he was unable to get "all the way through" because of scar tissue from her surgery. They removed a few polyps ... but have not sent them to oathology that I know of. She also had a portion of her vena cava removed because of a blood clot from the tumour. No complications from the surgery.
I'm confused as to why the ployps were not sent away and how a nephrectomy can cause scar tissue in your colon. I've heard of some obstructions while in hospitals and immediately foloowing surgery but not months later and asymptomatic. Any ideas?
