A study from the CDC suggests that the recent cases of whooping cough may be due to a problem with the vaccine. The CDC says that whooping cough is appearing in countries where vaccination rates are high.

" 'The reemergence of pertussis has been attributed to various factors, including increased awareness, improved diagnostics, decreased vaccination coverage, suboptimal vaccines, waning vaccine-induced immunity, and pathogen adaptation ... Pathogen adaptation is supported by several observations.'
"In other words, vaccinating against the whooping cough pathogens has caused the pathogens to evolve with a more virulent strain."
Every few years, there are reports of whooping cough in a number of states, including California.
Pertussis vaccines, like that used for whooping cough can contain bioactive toxins and aluminum and mercury additives. These have caused brain injury and death in some children.
Vaccination does not guarantee safety from whooping cough. Even when people are vaccinated it is possible to get whooping cough from B. pertussis or B. parapertussis organisms. The disease and the vaccines carry the risk of becoming ill.
