The first round of Chemo started with 2 strong Chemo's and Steroids. For those of you who don't know the procedures involved, I will describe them to you. You are usually seated in a chair , and an IV is started in your hand. The medicine is started
and you can read,eat, and drink, if you like. See- it's not so bad!! The Nurses and staff are in the room all the time if you need them. My first Chemo began and after about 4 minutes, I started feeling very warm and it spread throughout my whole body. I immediately called for the Nurse, and believe me came running. She asked me
questions, and as I was answering them, a huge wave of very bad pain started traveling throgh my body, She stopped the IV, and told me that she was going to call Dr. Rodriques and inform him that a mild reaction had occured from the Chemo. Not long after the Nurse came over and said that Dr. R. told her to adjust the Steroids to
compensate for the reaction. This was done and the treatment was resumed and con-cluded without any further incident. These Chemo Nurses are highly trrained and capable of handling any and every situation. The day after the treatment, I went back to the Oncology Center to receive a shot of Steriods. You also take pills the day before and the day of, and the dy after the treatment. The following week you go back for blood work which tells the Doctor if your platelets and other blood chemistry is within proper readings. The week after that, I saw Dr.R.. WE discussed my blood work and concluded that it would be all right to keep going with the Chemo. Several days later, I was to begin having several side effects occur.
