Hello,
This month I started the nuvaring, previously I had not been on hormonal birth control since the summer. I'm a little confused about its effectiveness. The pamphlet/website say that the ring should be effective after seven days of use. However, I have also heard from other sources that backup protection should be used for the first month when starting hormonal birth control. Will seven days really be long enough?
I put in my first ring on 12/4 in the morning. I had condomless sex in the evening on 12/11(around 8pm?) and on 12/12. Each time my partner used the pull out method in addition to the hormonal birth control. Was I protected? Technically I did wait 7 full days. Also, in the case that I do ovulate this month, I'm not too concerned because my cycle in a bit longer than most (32-33 days) so I usually won't ovulate until Day 18 or beyond in my cycle. Still, should I be concerned?
I'm not concerned about STI-protection because I am in a long-term monogamous relationship with no infidelity.
Any opinions? Thank you!
