I have experienced problems with depression for the last 10 years. At times well controlled with medication. However in the last 2 years I have experienced severe problems with anxiety. I and my psychiatrist attributed this problem to stress I was experiencing with my son and his family. In addition to the anxiety I experienced problems with diarrhea, bloating, gas and abdominal pain. I did not speak to my Dr. about this as I felt it was most likely related to my stress and problems with anxiety.
Approximately two months ago I happened upon an article in a womens magazine that listed anxiety and depression along with digestive disorders and joint pain to gluten intolerance. As a 3 week stay in hospital as well as different medications had not in any way improved my anxiety I decided to try a gluten free diet. It could not hurt me and I felt as if my life was not worth living at times. To my utter amazement and disbelief I found that about two weeks into the diet my digestive problems had improved, my anxiety had pretty well gone, and joint pain had been reduced significantly.
I would be very interested in hearing from anyone else who has exprienced a similar situation.
