I was involved in an accident almost a month ago, which resulted in 4 broken ribs and a collapsed/bruised lung, for which they inserted a chest tube. I just had a thoracentesis today for pleural effusion (800 ml). Is there much of a chance of recurrence of this in the future? Also, my primary doctor doesn't seem to think I need a pneumonia shot this season. Should I insist? I'm only 40 and otherwise healthy, except for these complications from my accident.
