First off, I just found out about this website from watching The Doctors this past week...I wish I would have found out about you sooner!!!
Second, I am currently 35, but was diagnosed with PCOS when I was 27 due to extreme ovarian pain and bleeding, (though I'd always had irregular cycles since I was 15). I was started on bcp's, and until 4 years ago, had regular cycles. Even on bcp's my cycle was somewhat irregular, and I had doses changed to help regulate. A year ago we lost insurance and I was unable to stay on the bcp's and my cycles became extremely sporadic (I'm talking 4 months of bleeding with no letting up, then have a couple of weeks off, then on again for weeks at a time). Even while on bc, I would bleed after sex, or would start bleeding for another week or longer (which really puts a damper on my marriage). My husband is very understanding and patient, but I don't know what else to do. I'm waiting for the bcp's to reincorporate in my system, and I've had all sorts of tests done (thyroid, hormone, diabetes, testosterone, you name it) and all my tests came back normal except for elevated sugars and cholesterol. I also had abdominal ultrasounds which just confirmed the PCOS and a uterine biopsy to check for abnormal cells, which came back negative. We are not looking to get pregnant (though I've been told it would be difficult by multiple doctors), and I'm at my wits end on what to do. I am extremely anemic (taking iron pills and iron enriched foods), obese, and lethargic all the time.
I'm not sure what else I can do, but what addition tests or questions should I be talking to my doctor about? I've done research and have asked the doctors all the questions I could think of. I don't know what else to do. Please help.
