Hi, I found out something last week about my mother and now I'm scared of having that risk. Last year my mother had hernia surgery and with my mother's exact words were "they took out polyp/cyst from her hernia or ovary" I don't know which is the right word in this that make sense and I hope you can clarify this part I'm saying. I don't know if polyp/cyst is in the hernia or ovary.
Anyways my mother had this removed last year and she is all better. Last week my mother, sister and I were talking about her surgery and health matters and this is what my mother told me with her exact words she said "what they removed was a tumor that was their for many years and got bigger and bigger which was cancer and the doctor removed it". I was shocked after she said such thing to me. She told me in the past that it was a cyst/polyp that they had to removed and now she told me something completely different and I was really surprised to hear that. I end up arguing with my mother why she never said such thing to me in the beginning because she told me two completely different things after all this time.
My concern from this point is could I be at risk for such thing as breast or ovarian cancer after what my mother went through? I'm only 28 years old.
I'm worried because when I was at my oncologist he told me that I have fibrocystic breasts and I'm afraid it can lead to cancer or something. He told me I have two cyst in my right breast which is normal and since my breasts are very tender especially with my left breast recently I feel something in few spots in my left breast but sonogram didn't show because sonogram doesnt show anything on tender breasts.
Anyway's I'm going to see my oncologist next month for checkup and my main concern is what my mother went through and such surprising thing she told me I don't know if it's something I should mention to my doctor. I keep thinking I should say this to my doctor so he understands the history of what I found out about my mother to know if I have such risk and get his opinion. Do you think I should say this to my doctor? Please let me know soon.
Thanks So Much,
Melissa
