my period has been all over for 7 months

i have always been every 28 days lasting 5-6 day no spoting but 7 month ago it all changed now it is every 28-40 days lasting 12-16 day sometimes 2-4 full periods a month even the flow has changed it is more slimmy than it has ever been my dr says that 42 is to young to start menopouse and wants to do a d&c and hysterscopy what sould i do.thanks
