The latest newsletter from my favorite Herb Shop here in Phoenix (Chakra4) is about losing weight safely:
"Lately we’ve been getting a lot of questions about weight loss and detoxification. Interestingly enough, the two topics are inter-twined.
As for detoxification, the body does a great job of that already. As long as we don’t get in the way that is. The degree to which we deviate from an ideal diet of fresh organic foods determines the level to which we get in the way.
Other factors such as medications, smoking, and alcohol also muddy the waters.
Healthy weight loss is almost totally dependent upon the body’s ability to detoxify itself. So it shouldn’t be much of a surprise that the same diet that lends itself to healthy detoxification also lends itself to weight loss.
The body must be able to cleanse itself in order to start shedding fat in a healthy and sustainable manner.
When the body is unable to complete its detoxification processes, excess toxins are stored in fat tissue. As a result, the body will be very reluctant to burn off that fat tissue for fear of releasing those toxins into the blood stream and not being able to handle processing and eliminating them.
The good news, is that allowing our bodies to do its job is relatively simple. Eating a diet comprised of fresh organic foods gets us most of the way there."

No overnight miracles, but a safe, slow way to lose weight. Losing and keeping it off, as always, is up to us being willing to change our eating habits and lifestyle. It's part of my plan for this year. How about you? :-)
