Mood: Feeling Content
It’s amazing how much calmer I feel since I started an “email fast.” I admit that over the years I’ve developed an addiction to emails and FaceBook. Every time my iPhone vibrates with an incoming message, I can hardly resist the compulsion to check it and see what’s up in the world.
Every so often one of those messages brings me a pleasant surprise. But most of the time they bring me stress and anxiety, because I feel obligated and compelled to respond to them right away.
As a part of my strategy to de-stress, I decided to quit this unhealthy habit. I turned off the vibration alert, so I won’t know when there’s an incoming message. I stopped checking emails the first thing when I get out of bed, and only check my email once a day at the end of the day.
This simple change has already made a difference. I feel that I have more time on my hands, and my life seems more spacious somehow. And I certainly feel less anxious and agitated, and calmer and more relaxed.
It’s a good start, and I’m liking it. How about you?
