In Washington, D.C. on October 15th-17th, 2013 Fortune's Most Powerful Women Summit was held. This 3 day event was home to the world's most powerful women leaders in business, government, academia, philanthropy, and the arts.
This year there was no shortage of amazing speakers gracing the stage. Everyone from Marissa Mayer (CEO of Yahoo!), to Emily White (Chief Operating Officer of Instagram), Chelsea Clinton, Tory Burch (CEO and Designer), Sara Blakey (Founder of Spanx) and the list goes on. Each speaker sharing their own accomplishments and advice for the rest of us.
Sara Blakey Founder and Inventor of Spanx shared her advice for the rest of us - Try something new, even when it makes you uncomfortable.
"I like to stop people and say 'If nobody showed you how to do your job, how would you do it?' There’s so much amazing creativity that will surface if we stop and get off autopilot,” Blakely said. “Change is going to happen when you do something differently.”
While Tory Burch added her advice "Lessons happen everyday and it all comes down to authenticity. That has to carry through in everything you do."
