The public is well aware of the many treatments for male sexual dysfunction. We have all seen (or heard) the commercials and effort made to promote the use of these products.
But, here's a question, have you heard about FDA approved treatments for female sexual dysfunction? I'd be surprised if you had heard of a treatment (approved by the FDA, of course) to help treat female sexual dysfunction.
It's just not out there. But why? Why are women being ignored? Here's some information on what has happened in the world of male sexual dysfunction medication lately:
Yesterday the FDA approved the 25th treatment for male sexual dysfunction – a new testosterone treatment from Endo Pharmaceuticals called Aveed. This decision was made on the heels of the FDA’s issuance of a drug safety announcement on this drug class, warning that the Agency is currently investigating the risk of stroke, heart attack and death in men taking FDA-approved testosterone products. As this approval opens up discussion around the safety concerns of the drug, it also marks the addition of yet another treatment for male sexual dysfunction.
Men now have 25 FDA-approved options to treat sexual dysfunction, while the number for women remains at zero. Dr. Leah Millheiser and Dr. Michael Krychman engaged in conversation on Twitter regarding the approval, in support of an option for women. We’ve included their Tweets below, and in the meantime encourage you to share with your followers on social media, by retweeting the conversation they’ve started or voicing your own opinion: ·
