Has anybody studied the link between one's health (as well as attitude and outlook on life) and music therapy? I'm noticing increased blood-flow in my workouts and heart-rate when I'm working out to more "energetic music". Something like rap music or hip hop instrumentals
. Exercising was just one example, but it'd be interesting to know how much of an influence music could really have on a person during intense physical or mental activity. Especially for me, a mother of two whose trying to get the most out of every single workout to lose pounds. Well, I've done some digging around and come to find out music therapy is a legitimate medical field with intensive research behind it.
What makes music therapy different from every other form of therapy is its reliance on music. So pretty much every session involves the client in a musical experience of some kind. Music therapy is a means where therapists use the influence music has on human beings to treat patients. Music's being used to alleviate pain, soothe (learning disabilities) and other mental illnesses. Music Therapy's also, recommended to patients without mental-illnesses merely for stress reduction as well. When I was younger I can recall having "music therapists" at my elementary school even though I really didn't grasp what they were there for. I was so young at the time.
The most important thing I learned while wanting to draw a connection between my better workout and the playlist I had engaged, was that it was concrete. Music Therapy is concrete. It's incredibly evidence-based with research that's been conducted since the beginning of time almost. The best part is the therapeutic aspect of the music isn't limited to people with musical abilities. I say that, because I am in no way shape, or form "a musician". However, experts in the field would even go as far to say "music" is one of mankind's biggest influences. Interesting stuff.
