Alexandra Fine and Janet Lieberman are determined to change the way women experience sex. The two created Dame Products, a female-oriented sex toy manufacturer.
They recently launched an Indiegogo (a crowd-funding site) campaign to raise funds for Eva, their "hands-free, strap-free, non-intrusive couples' vibrator” that gives a woman the clitoral stimulation needed to reach orgasm during sex, according to AskMen.com.
Both women bring needed skills to this endeavor. Fine has a Master's degree in Clinical Psychology concentrating in sex therapy from Columbia University. And Lieberman has a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from MIT.
“When you look at sexuality, there is a huge disparity between men and women’s pleasure,” Fine told BuzzFeed News. “Women are much more likely to find sex non-enjoyable and much less likely to have orgasms.”
Fine and Lieberman believe the cause of this orgasm problem is plain and simple – the clitoris is being neglected. They call this the “pleasure gap.”
The pleasure gap comes from the fact that 70 percent of women need clitoral stimulation but often don't receive it during penetrative sex because it can be awkward.
Fine and Lieberman hope to change that scenario with Eva.
Eva has two “wings” that fit under a woman's labia majora and hold it in place. The wings also keep the buzzing vibrator directly over the clitoris, allowing a couple to have sex without the nuisance of holding a vibrator.
The wings are flexible so that Eva can fit a wide range of women's vaginas.
“I wanted to empower women to enjoy sex while creating a product that wasn’t obtrusive, so her partner can still totally focus on her,” Fine told BuzzFeed.com.
The hands-free vibrator also has three different speeds which Lieberman described to Huffington Post as ranging from "gentle to almost intimidating."
“Our goal is to create a product that fits into your sex life, instead of the other way around,” said Lieberman in a press release which was reported by AskMen.com. “We’re motivated by the notion that vibrators can be vehicles for empowerment and sexual wellness.”
According to MedCityNews.com, sexually active people have stronger immune systems, better bladder control, lowered blood pressure, less risk of heart attack, better sleep, less stress, and sex also counts as exercise.
Eva is set to cost $105 once it’s widely available in February, 2015. So far, female beta testers gave the product rave reviews.
AskMen.com reported that Fine explained in a news release, “We are trying to make the world a happier place one vagina at a time.”
