It’s no secret that increasing protein intake can help you to gain muscle and burn more fat.
Consuming more protein at regular intervals throughout the day can also help to keep you feeling full longer and decrease cravings which can equate to overall weight loss… which is something that most people are constantly striving for.
As this high protein trend grows in popularity, more and more products are being introduced and marketed as “health food” but are they really all they claim to be?
I myself am a fan of protein powders and the convenience they provide, but up until recently I had never really looked at the ingredients in detail. I chose my favorite brands like most people, based on taste, blend-ability and price.
Well, after I got sick I started really thinking about what I was putting into my body and began reading ingredients on everything…including personal care products and cleaning supplies. What I found was somewhat shocking.
Here are a list of not so great things found in many popular protein powders:
Artificial sweeteners such as aspartame.
Artificial colours and flavors.
Refined sugars.
GMO corn and soy.
Heavy metals.
Antibiotics.
Bovine growth hormone.
Carrageenan
Don’t let the marketing fool you… these ingredients are found in some of the top selling protein brands in North America, all of which claim to be “high quality” or “health food” products.
Not to worry though, there are many companies out there that want to change the food landscape in this country by producing only the best quality products.
