I had a severe nosebleed on Saturday afternoon... blood out both nostrils as well as down the back of my throat. I should have gone to the ER but I did not. It took about 90 minutes to get the nosebleed to stop. I used Afrin for the past 3 days to help. It's now Wednesday (4 days later) and I'm still spitting out brownish clotted blood from the back of my throat. This tends to happen most often when I wake up in the morning. I've not seen any bright red blood... just the brown.
There have been no nose bleeds since Saturday. However, every once in a while when I blow my nose, I'll get a bit of brownish colored matter coming out of the nostril that didn't have the bleed. Nothing from the nostril that did have the bleed.
Is it possible to still be expelling old clotted blood 4 days after a major nose bleed? Or is there a possibility that I still could have a very slow bleed with blood going down the back of my throat? Just not sure how to proceed and the ENT that my primary care doctor referred me to doesn't have any openings until next week.
