There are plenty of things you can do to prolong the life of your wigs, but washing and drying your wig is what can cause the most damage - so learning to do it correctly from the beginning is essential for helping make the most out the life of your wig.

Washing
Like your own hair, the hair in a human hair wig is very strong – however without the natural oils and nutrients from your scalp, the wig needs a lot more care than you would give to your own hair. In addition – unlike your own hair, which is attached your scalp, wigs are weaved, glued or tied to a base, which means they can come loose a lot easier.
In order to decrease the chances of any damage you must never wash your wig in the shower or washing machine, but always by hand.
• Fill a sink or bowl with cold or lukewarm water (no hotter).
• Apply Shampoo to the ends of the hair and gently massage in the direction of the hair, avoiding the scalp – any rubbing of the scalp will cause hairs to come loose and create bald patches in the wig.
• Use a wide tooth comb to comb the shampoo through the hair, in a downward direction until hair is thoroughly disbursed throughout the hair.
• Turn the cap inside out and gently wash the inside, without rubbing at all.
• To rinse the wig, simply pour lukewarm water through the hair – starting at the top and working your way down the hair shaft.
• To condition your hair repeat the same process with a lightweight conditioner.
Drying
It is not recommended to use any heated styling products on your human hair wig. Although the hair can cope with being straightened, dried and curled, the heat and (and hot, rapidly moving air from hairdryers) can cause the strands to come loose at the base.
• Blot your human hair wig with a soft towel.
• Place wig on a wig stand and leave to dry naturally – out of the sun and in a warm, dry place.
• When your hair is almost dry it is possible to style the wig using a hair dryer (with the heat setting turned off and on the lowest speed) however it isn’t recommended to do it often.
