Hi there. I have a lot of information and many questions to go with it as well.
I have polycystic ovarian syndrome and have been taking the same kind of birth control pills (Alysena 28) for 3 years. I was put on the pill because I wasn't having periods monthly, I had had 4 periods in two years and that's when I figured something was wrong. From what I understand about my periods now on the pill is that they basically provide what's called 'break through bleeding', which pretty much forces me to have periods. They aren't heavy periods like some women's, they last an average of 5 days and on the heaviest day I use a regular tampon and a thin panty liner, so my flow is obviously not a heavy one. My birth control basically put me through puberty since I was a late bloomer. Technically I am finishing puberty now and I am almost 20. Again, this has to do with polycystic ovarian syndrome. I recently had an ultrasound done and the doctor gave me my results and said that my cysts were gone. This is where I'm confused because 3 years ago I had gone to a gynecologist who diagnosed me with PCOS and he hadn't mentioned anything about the cysts going away. Can my cysts really be gone? And do I still technically have PCOS? Since my cysts are gone, does it make it easier for me to get pregnant? (I am sexually active and any pregnancy that occurs now would be an unwanted pregnancy) Every time I have had sex in the past 3 years I have always used a condom and taken my pill at the same time each time, maybe a few hours off but I have never missed a pill. Since I've been on the pill for this long are my chances of pregnancy almost non-existent? I have read a lot about the pill and condoms combined and how safe it is and by now I shouldn't be worried, but for some reason I am. My final question is, could there be a possibility of getting pregnant with these two methods or birth control that I am using (condoms and the pill for three years) even if a condom broke or something went wrong?
