what is the difference between a vaginal infection and a uti

I am bleeding/spotting when I pee but nothing shoes up on a diaper. they said after doing a urin dip stick they did a culture. I came back positive for uti. usually when I get them their is e-coli. I go augmenton for 7 days usually they give me Cipro.
