I'm nearly 27 years old. In the past few years, my mood swings before my period are getting much worse and I don't know how to cope with them. I've tried talking to doctors but I feel they are just brushing me off saying that it is typical PMS. I have had the contraceptive implant in for the past three years and I find it great. My doctor denies that it affects mood. I also have a 5cm ovarian cyst on my right ovary that may have to be surgically removed if it gets any bigger. I also have been diagnosed with bipolar disorder and anxiety and have been medicated for it for the last 9 years. I've tried to address this issue with my psychiatrist and once again it was brushed off as typical PMS symptoms. My psychiatrist is also male.
With the mood swings, I become increasingly irrational and borderline abusive towards my partner. My worst fear is that one day I'll do or say something that I cannot take back. I am afraid I will end our relationship unintentionally if one day he decides he can't take it anymore. I'm driving myself crazy wondering if it is him or me. I completely overreact to every little thing. I become very sensitive about spending money or when he looks for money from me. I only get paid once a month and make far less than he does, so he doesn't always understand my situation. I become borderline stingy and react totally irrationally when asked to spend money. I will eat all the sugar and chocolate in the house.
Once my period arrives, these symptoms stop and I become completely normal again. Has anyone experienced the same symptoms as me? Is there anything you found helpful? Is there any natural remedies or things I could try? I am seriously terrified of myself and the long term impact this may have on my life and relationships if it continues. My partner (male) believes that woman have some control over this, and that we have an on/off switch but we don't. It's just so hard.
