I have a bad toenail fungus in my two big toes, and I've tried many medications, without much success. I then went to a dermatologist who has prescribed me Lamisil to be taken for three months straight. If at the end of the three months it is still not fully cured, he would recommend another three.
However he told me that I cannot drink alcohol during this time, as it could have negative effects on the liver. I'm 24 and not much of a drinker, but I like to have a glass of wine, or a rum and coke or two when out with friends.
I wouldn't mind giving up drinking if it means that I can finally get rid of this toe fungus, but the problem is the following: in less than three months, it will be carnival in my country (I live in the caribbean), with lots of parties - and needless to say, drinking. I don't mind going to the parties and not drinking, but the biggest day of the festival is August 6th, and it's a street party with lots of drinks. I had already bought my ticket to the event which was really expensive and frankly, I don't want to be the only one that is sober in a street full of drunk people. I wouldn't over drink, but I'd like to have a few cocktails (I would also drink lots of water) while I'm there.
So I was wondering if I could take the Lamisil from now until about a week before the party, take a break, and then start back again a few days after the party. Would that be safe? If it absolutely isn't, then I won't drink at all, but I just would like to know if this would be possible.
I will discuss it with my derm, but I'd like to hear some other opinions first.
Thank you.
