In the past few years, the popular laser treatment, known as Vaginal Rejuvenation, has been used on women with urinary incontinence or menopausal symptoms. Young women have also been drawn to the laser treatment to reshape or resize their vagina.
Certain laser treatments have been approved for clearing pre-cancerous cells and genital warts. But vaginal rejuvenation has not been proven to work and has not been approved by the Federal Drug Administration.
The FDA has not approved some of the claims from this treatment and even warns about some of the dangers.
The FDA warned about potential adverse effects of rejuvenation that include vaginal burning, scarring, pain during sexual intercourse, and recurring/chronic pain.
The FDA has sent letters to several manufacturers about the inappropriate marketing of their devices for vaginal rejuvenation treatments because the manufacturers have been promoting treatments that have not been approved and come with lots of risks.
