A new NY Times article discussed a phenomenon that I have been slightly baffled by. Chronic flip-flop wearing!
Seriously. When I was growing up, flip flops were just for the beach or pool side. Then , it was cool to wear the "soccer sandals" by Adidas (or some well-known athletic footwear company). Now, I witnessed college students wearing flip flops with their evening dresses, and worse, they wore them in the winter time walking through the snow! I guess every generation has their fashion statements.
After reading a few posts on EmpowHer from individuals who are living with chronic foot pain, I thought this might be an interesting topic of discussion. Some new research is showing that flip flop wearers are having foot problems and foot pain. The flip flop wearer's walking stride is different from that of other shoes, presumably because they need to hold onto the shoe with their toes.
Are you a chronic flip flop wearer? Would this new information change how frequently you wear them, in order to prevent possible foot or leg pain?
