As an OB/GYN, Dr. Zarine Kotian feels it is her responsibility to encourage teenage girls to visit a gynecologist, recommending that they start between ages 13 and 15. The first appointment can be a time of talking with the doctor, establishing a rapport and becoming more at ease with them.

This can be a delicate situation for a teenage girl, as the gynecologist will be asking very personal questions about her menses, as well as questions of a sexual nature. Dr. Kotian hopes that girls will be able to answer all these questions honestly, and be able to develop an open relationship with the doctor.

"Dr. Kotian is an obstetrician/gynecologist on staff at Banner Thunderbird Medical Center in Glendale, Ariz. She was born and raised in Ohio, attending Ohio State University where she completed her degree in Molecular Genetics with a minor in Spanish. She is board certified in OB/GYN."
