The cable channel TLC published an article on their cooking site entitled ‘10 Foods for a Better Sex Life’. In the article a list of 10 foods are featured for their health benefits in keeping your body strong and others for their sultry reputation. Aroma, taste, and the chemical make up of certain foods can leave you lusting for your mate or enhance your performance in the bedroom. It is the health benefits of these foods that put them on the list but it may not be nature that amps up your love life.

1. Dark Chocolate
2. Gelatin
3. Red Wine
4. Oysters
5. Oatmeal
6. Water
7. Bananas
8. Blueberries
9. Chili Peppers
10. Food Aromas

The list does not include some commonly misconstrued aphrodisiacs like rhino horn, Spanish fly, and certain herbs. The revolutionary sex doctor, Ruth Westheimer, or Dr. Ruth, claims there are no true aphrodisiacs, and she is right. An aphrodisiac is defined as having the ability to arouse or intensify sexual desire and no natural food has the capacity to do so. What does occur is the brain’s response to certain foods may trigger feelings of happiness and euphoria much like sexual pleasure (ie. Chocolate). Other foods, like the ones featured above, benefit your love life through healthy eating and energy.

A few of the foods listed seem out of place but their unique benefits make them a great addition to your diet.

2. Gelatin – Surprisingly a big contribition to joint pain and weakness, gelatin can help keep your bones and joints strong and flexible. ‘A 1998 study at Ball State University found that gelatin reduced joint pain in athletes. If you're looking for energy before a big night, studies indicate that eating gelatin can help heal connective tissue, keep your ligaments springy and repair minor damage to joint lining. Although gelatin alone doesn't contain much nutritional value, there's something enticingly seductive (and curative) about the wiggle of it.’
5. Oatmeal – High in beta-glucen fiber, a fiber that helps lower cholesterol, oatmeal can help you stay energized all day and can increase heart health, a critical organ for an enjoyable evening. ‘Oats are also high in manganese and selenium, which are vital for hormone production and regulation. And while it's not going to make you any friskier if your system gets a powerful blast of selenium, a deficiency will definitely slow you down in bed.’
9. Chili Peppers – These peppers contain Capsaicin, the chemical in spicy foods that heats you up and revs your metabolism.. The Capsaicin also can increase skin sensitivity but the oils are easily transferred and can lead to a painful situation.

Others on the list are notorious for their health benefits be it blueberries for the brain, bananas for their potassium and water for, well everything, these foods may be just the thing your body needs to stay healthy and active in your everyday life. An energized, active lifestyle leaves you satisfied and energized for more, two attributes that go hand in hand with a good sex life.
