There's so much hype about the big screen version of "Sex and the City" hitting the theaters, staring Sarah Jessica Parker, Kim Cattrall, Kristin Davis and Cynthia Nixon, that I've decided it's finally time to check it out. Yes, I realize I'm coming out of the closet on this one; I may be the only single woman in America who's never watched a single episode of the show.

Well, I take that back. I did see part of an episode one night, in between folding laundry and cleaning the hamster cage. I honestly tried to watch it to the end, but at the time I was overwhelmed and tired, as I have been for much of the last thirteen years as a mom.

In any case, it's a little embarrassing to be the only single woman in the dark here, especially since I share the exact name and age of one of the show's stars.

My only excuse is that the glitzy world of Carrie Bradshaw and her devoted friends seemed a little too froufrou for my practical world of sippy cups and Fisher Price. And the sex part … well, I lost my libido somewhere between the births of my first and fourth babies. The last thing my fertile and overly taxed body needed was anything remotely having to do with sex.

While some fans of the show professed to regard "Sex and the City" as a welcome escape, my fantasy was more along the lines of some quiet time to wander the aisles of Target kid-free. The thought of gorgeous women doing lunches and filling their closets with Manolo Blahnik was way too far out there for me even to begin to process.

But now that I'm divorced and my kids are older, what's "out there" doesn't seem quite so foreign anymore. I've done my time wearing puke-covered t-shirts and feeling guilty for buying a $12 pair of sandals at Payless because they're for me rather than for my kids. Suddenly, Carrie, Samantha, Miranda and Charlotte's world is looking pretty desirable and not a bit scary. I think I could get used to dressing fabulously and lunching with my girlfriends. And sex? Well, I'm not so tired anymore.
