Dr. Ty Thaiyananthan

Gowriharan “Ty” Thaiyananthan, M.D. is co-medical director at the Southern California Center for Neuroscience and Spine at Chapman Medical Center. As a board-eligible neurosurgeon, Dr. Thaiyananthan is a highly regarded researcher and neurosurgeon who specializes in complex and minimally-invasive spine surgery. He is at the forefront of pioneering new surgical techniques and instrumentation to treat degenerative disc disease, spinal stenosis, and scoliosis.

Dr. Thaiyananthan has written numerous peer-reviewed articles, book chapters and abstracts. He is an active member of several prestigious medical associations including the American Association of Neurological Surgeons, Congress of Neurological Surgeons and North American Society of Spine Surgery, Orange County Medical Association, Indian Medical Association.

Dr. "TY" earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Biomedical Engineering and Bachelor of Arts degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Johns Hopkins University. After earning his medical degree from the University of California, San Francisco, Dr. TY completed his surgical internship and neurosurgery residency at Yale New Haven Hospital where he was also named Chief Resident of Neurological Surgery. Dr. TY completed his minimally-invasive and complex spine surgery fellowship at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center’s Institute for Spinal Disorders.
