Sandra Anaya

The bariatric surgery program was implemented in January, 2000. As the first Bariatric Surgey Coordinator for the facility, Sandra Anaya, R.N., worked under the direction of Dr. Mal Fobi, an internationally renowned surgeon, to implement the standards for achieving quality care and services for bariatric patients. These standards incorporate approved clinical care guidelines, specialized equipment, and dedicated training and education programs for nursing and other personnel.

In 2005, the hospital received its first certification as a Center of Excellence for Bariatric Surgery through the Surgical Review Corporation. The facility was one of the first in LA and Orange County to receive this special recognition. The facility was recertified as a Bariatric Center of Excellence in September 2009, under the direction and supervision of Judy Tanelian, R.N.

With 35 years experience in nursing, 30 of which are in nursing administration, Ms. Anaya continues to provide broad oversight of the bariatric program working all members of the bariatric team.
