Peggy Tilley RN BSN

Margaret “Peggy” Tilley has been an exemplary leader for the nursing department at Alvarado Hospital since 1987. She is currently the nursing director for medical-surgical services where she is responsible for the total patient care and supervision of five departments and more than 120 nurses. Her devotion to delivering the safest, most effective, quality patient care possible earned her a position on the San Diego Patient Safety Consortium—twice. In 2005, she was part of the elite team that evaluated significant areas of opportunity to reduce hospital mortalities by preventing medication errors and, in 2008, she returned to review patient-controlled analgesia. Peggy also was named a 2009 San Diego Healthcare Champion.

Peggy began her nursing career more than 23 years ago with a nursing degree from Genesee Hospital School of Nursing in Rochester, New York. During Peggy’s first position as staff nurse for Genesee Hospital, she quickly rose to become a team leader and member of the standard care plan committee. Her skills and expertise grew through her experiences at the Community Blood and Plasma Center and, while on call, assisting various hospitals in their oncology, orthopedics, neurology, obstetrics and other specialty nursing departments. In her quest for knowledge and higher standards, Peggy later earned her a bachelor’s degree in nursing at National University, attained her certificate in critical care nursing in 1991, and is currently working on her master’s degree in nursing from Cal State Dominguez Hills.
