Ever wonder whether you've got everything you could possibly need if you suddenly had a full-blown emergency on your hands? Daunting thought. Particularly if you have little ones at home, things can happen fast. Especially the unexpected.

The Red Cross wisely suggests that it's a good idea to take the time to put together your own first aid kit, before you have need of one.

Here's a checklist from the Red Cross that can help you stock up with the things you might wish you had. You'll want to have a store of assorted bandages and dressings in your first aid kit, for instance, and some cloth tape. Make sure you have an oral theromometer, tweezers and scissors.

And that's just for starters.

"In addition to the basic necessities, include any personal items such as medications and emergency phone numbers or other items your health-care provider may suggest. Check the kit regularly to replace any missing items or products that have expired."
