Wednesday May 12 is ME/CFS Awareness Day. ME stands for myalgic encephalomyelitis. CFS stands for Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. Some prefer one name, some the other. Lots of us think neither name does the illness justice.

Some think ME and CFS are the same illness and some think they are two separate conditions. I call it Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, simply because that's the term I am more familiar with. Whatever you choose to call it, the people who are chronically ill with ME/CFS are suffering.

An astonishing number of people have borne this illness for decades, their lives dismantled, but there is still so much that is unknown. It is a hot topic on the internet, but the media and the medical community in general show little to no interest in it.

Those of us with CFS are grateful to researchers like Dr. Suzanne Vernon, Scientific Director of the CFIDS Association of America. Here, Dr. Vernon brings some attention to this mysterious illness, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome.
