The FDA is encouraging people to avoid Johnson & Johnson products since their last recall recently. The recall was prompted by the presence of higher than normal concentrations of the active ingredient in the children's and infant's products.

The products also may have contained ingredients that were questionable and below company standards. Since last June, there have been 46 complaints concerning foreign substances in some Johnson & Johnson products.

The FDA makes the recommendation that people use generic brands of these products.

The FDA says that the Johnson & Johnson manufacturing plant in Fort Washington, PA, held materials with bacterial contamination, that could potentially lead to infection. This was discovered during an inspection in April.

"Even with the latest findings, FDA head Margaret Hamburg still says the potential for harm is remote – but says that parents should sidestep the recalled products and use generic alternatives. The question for the company: will parents ever return to the name brand?"
