Fatty Liver is sometimes called Non-Alcoholic Steatorrhoeic Hepatosis (NASH). This condition is also known by the inglorious name Non-Alcholic-Fatty-Liver-Disease (NAFLD).

None of these names are attractive. Neither is the condition.

Really, a fatty liver is self-explanatory. The liver has too much fat, and the liver itself is bigger and heavier than a healthy one.

Discomfort just over the liver, in the right upper abdomen is not unusual. Gallstones may be an accompaniment as well.

Dr. Sandra Cabot works with people struggling with liver dysfunction, hormonal imbalances and weight problems.

According to Dr. Cabot, "Many doctors still do not make the link between the traditional Western diet and fatty liver. Many simply brush over the condition, telling patients there is nothing that can be done and that it will simply be ‘monitored'. Meanwhile the condition gets worse and worse as the functional liver tissue slowly gets replaced by fat over the years. If left unchecked, a severe inflamed fatty liver can lead to scarring of the liver tissue (cirrhosis)."
