Chronic Stress and Memory

During a stressful experience, the hypothalamus, which is located at the base of the brain, triggers a signal that alerts the adrenal glands to release powerful stress hormones, including adrenaline and cortisol. Overexposure to stress hormones causes injury to the cells in the hippocampus, which is the part of your brain involved in memory and learning. Memory impairment is one serious consequence of chronic stress.

I believe this to be very true. I was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia 14 yrs. ago after a very stressfull youth followed by an abusive marriage that caused long term chronic stress. I truly believe that yrs. upon yrs. of chronic long-term stress caused the Fibromyalgia which involves cognitive and memory problems also.
