Are you tired of your New Year’s resolutions? Are you ready to throw in the towel on your good intentions and let your life get back to normal?

If so, you’re not alone! Statistics show that only 8 percent of all resolution-makers actually succeed in keeping their resolution through the year.

For people looking for a good excuse to give up on their resolutions, January 17th — also known as Ditch New Year’s Resolutions Day — can provide an easy way out. That is the most common day for people to give up on their resolutions.

Setting New Year’s resolutions is a common tradition in the United States and many other countries, especially in the western hemisphere. A resolution is a promise to yourself or someone else to do something different in the new year.

Common resolutions include being more polite, opening doors for others, donating to the poor, eating better, losing weight, working out, or being more financially responsible.

If you made a New Year’s resolution, you may be regretting it now that you are almost two weeks into the year. Statistics show that approximately 29 percent of resolvers give up before reaching the two-week mark.

So if you are still on track, think back on why you made the resolution in the first place before you abandon your goal. You may be wavering because you did not have realistic expectations of how difficult it would be to keep your resolution.

Instead of giving up entirely, consider ways to adjust your goal to make it more achievable, especially if your resolution was aimed at improving your health. Even small steps can lead to improvements based on where you started on January 1st.

If you decide to participate in Ditch New Year’s Resolutions Day this year and let go of your resolution, don’t despair. You can still take credit for making it longer than the 25 percent of people who gave up after week one.
