Dr. Donielle Wilson reassures women who have had ongoing problems with yeast infections, that this need not hinder their chances of becoming pregnant. She can treat yeast infection with natural therapies in early pregnancy without any complications. She will also check progesterone levels, since having high enough progesterone levels can prevent vaginal yeast infections.

Dr. Wilson is a licensed naturopathic physician and has a certificate in midwifery. She specializes in natural health care for women.

Dr. Wilson:
No, there’s a lot of ways that we can work with that to make sure that you have the best chances for fertility even when you’ve had any kind of history of yeast infection, even chronic yeast infections.

What I do in my practice is then we first address any yeast infections, get them to go away, and then go into preconception planning, and if a yeast infection happens in early pregnancy we can easily handle that with very natural therapies so that it doesn’t impact the pregnancy.

Another interesting fact is that progesterone levels have a lot to do with the predisposition to infections in early pregnancy. So one thing I do is help to ensure that progesterone levels are as high as they need to be in early pregnancy, and that will inhibit vaginal yeast infections.
