I recently put on some pounds after having my baby and I am looking for some dvds that I can purchase that will help me get in the mood to workout and shed those pounds. Any suggestions are very helpful, tell me what you have tried and how it worked. Thanks

My favorite cardio workout is actually the cardio kickboxing workout (http://aerocardio.com/a-cardio-kickboxing-workout/). Now training is not boring anymore.. :)

Hello--
I am sorry to hear about the loss of your job and your friends moving away. I also don't have any friends around where I live, the ones I do are too busy doing the party thing-- which has never been my scene, especially now that I am a mom. It helps if you have a good family support system or if you take up Allison's advice and find some other moms to walk with or maybe even have play dates.
To tell you the truth, as a new mom myself, I find that baby center keeps me feeling like I've got some friends. They are a website targeted at mom's, new or old and you can join any group that relates to your interests, location, and you can find thousands of moms with children your age. Some of the girls I met through there have already been on several play dates. Send me a message if you are interested and I will give you more info.
Alysia's advice was also great. Volunteering is wonderful and if you have no one to watch your baby, you can always volunteer at your local fund raising walks such as diabetes, aids walk, race for the cure, multiple sclerosis, the possibilities are endless and they are a good way to help you get back to shape and spend time with your baby outside the home.
As far as your original question, I personally use P90X but I know some people who use the 30-day shred and also say it is an excellent video and much more affordable than the P90X system (they are a lot of videos, not just one).
Hope this helps!

Thanks Rosa,
August 11, 2009 - 7:57amThis helps me alot I just ordered the 30- day shred after reading the reviews it seems like that is just what I need to get rid of the thirty pounds I want to get off. And also thanks for the information about how to go about finding friends. It has been pretty hard because there are no kids that live by me my daughters age. It gets pretty lonely sitting in the house everyday with just the two of us.I will keep you posted to see how that video works out for me.

Unhappyinbrookland,
Why are you unhappy? Are you doing OK with a new baby?
I hope to hear from you again, but to answer your question about recommendations for exercise DVDs, here are a few options for you with specific exercise DVDs that have worked for some women, as well as links to other sites that provide "rankings":
-Exercise DVD
-My Cellulite is Disappearing [from a Video Exercise]
-Home Gyms
What exercises have you tried, and what do you typically enjoy doing? The best exercises are those that you enjoy doing, as you will continue using them. Do you enjoy walking, yoga, strength training, dancing, step aerobics, kickboxing, pilates or other? It is also important to have a varied workout, with some intense cardiovascular exercises, as well as stretching and strength training. I recently lost my extra baby weight (does it still count, if my "baby" is almost 3?! ha ha!), and I found the tried-but-true combination of diet and exercise works best, while giving yourself 6-12 months before you see substantial and sustainable changes is optimal.
Some of the best motivators for new moms includes:
- A fellow new mom workout buddy (both of your babies can nap while you workout)
- Stroller walking with your infant. There are actually "stroller walking groups" that you can find in your area by going to places such as www.MeetUp.com. What a great way to get both yourself and baby outdoors, and meet other moms with similar-aged kids!
Let us know if you have any other challenges, either with being a new mom and/or trying to lose weight...there are many, many women on this site who are currently in, or have been in, your shoes!

Hey allison,
August 10, 2009 - 7:10amThanks for your comment, the reason that I am unhappy is that I lost my job at the begining of the year and I have not been able to find another so far. So I have been just sitting around the house eating and gaining weight. I am currently in school but I would prefer to be working so it has been a depressing several months for me because most of my friends moved away. So I have am pretty lonely and depressed right now.

Have you considered doing some volunteer work? Not only would it get you out of the doldrums and being housebound, it would get you back into activity with other people and, who knows, even help you build a network of contacts that you might be able to parlay into a new job.

Hi there!
I'm so sorry about the loss of your job. That transition is really hard -- especially when you don't have good friends nearby to lean on. Are there any mom groups around in your area? If you'd like to private message me and let me know what city/town you live in, I might be able to help you find some resources to help get out and meet people. The hardest thing about staying at home is dealing with the intense feeling of isolation. I know -- I've been there. And it's so easy to get depressed. Please let me know if I can help you get out beyond your four walls...... :)
