Hi, I have a kind of problem and I found out it's neurological related. I have sciatica and because of this I get in a lot of pain but I do take medication for pain. The main thing I have going on that bothers me is from the right side of my stomach by touch I don't have much sensations and I don't feel the inside of my stomach either. The lower left side of my stomach I have pain though. I'm half way in pain and the other half I don't feel the surface of my stomach. Ever since I have such issue I haven't had much appetite and I'm afraid something killed my appetite. My neurologist ordered EMG which I'm having done next week and I want to know is EMG good to know what's going on with my senses? My doctor told me about muscle biopsy but they told me EMG is better. Are there any treatment available to get my senses back? My naturopathic doctor told me because of sciatica something is impinging me to my stomach that's why I feel like this, I want to know is there a way to find out what's making me impinged? So far I'm waiting to hear from my neurologist to know what's all this from. Please let me know what do you think?
Thank You,
Melissa

Hello Melissa6666,
I have absolutely no idea. No one, with or without sciatica, feels the surface of the stomach. Secondly, I do not know what your naturopathic doctor is suggesting.
Sciatica is not a medical condition but a symptom of another medical problem. It refers to pain, weakness, numbness, or tingling in the leg. Sciatica is caused by injury to or pressure on the sciatic nerve.
Electromyography or EMG is a test that checks the health of the muscles and the nerves that control the muscles. Your neurologist is ordering this test because of your symptoms of sciatica. EMG is most often used when a person has symptoms of weakness and examination shows impaired muscle strength. He probably wants to identify the cause of pressure on your sciatic nerve.
I do not think your loss of appetite is related to sciatica. Nor is the pain in your stomach the result of pressure or injury to the sciatic nerve.

Thank you for your reply. I'm seeing my neurologist next week regarding all of this but the main thing I know right now that bothering me a lot is I have pain on the lower left side of my stomach and on the right side of my stomach I don't feel the inside of my stomach to the outside the surface of my stomach. I feel it by scratch but by touch I don't feel it. I have no sensation like this and feeling like this I don't have the feeling of being hungry. Feeling like this I'm afraid something killed my appetite. I spoke to someone regarding my issue and she told me something that it's a good idea to have muscle biopsy from my stomach, I want to know do you think is right if I have such thing done? I'm very uncomfortable feeling like this and I will definitely speak to my neurologist about this whole thing and I thought I'd ask you to be sure about this. I'm very uncomfortable in my stomach and I'm scared feeling like this.
